We have gone to using gel purification using a  hole in the agarose filled 
with 15% PEG.  Then the DNA/PEG mixture is used directly in ligation 
reactions.  If you keep your hole small (ie. use a comb midway in the gel) 
this procedure works very well.

I think it came from a Biotechniques article about a year or so ago.
